Trip report

2007-01-26 Wee Jasper Caves (long weekend trip) at Wee Jasper
Trip report:
The aim of this trip was to site and measure up Dogleg for the possible prefabrication and erection of a gate.

Most of arrived on Friday nite, it is warm and dry and little grass cover.

The activities we pursued are not necessarily in chronological order but are the events that came to pass over the aforesaid weekend.

Splashing in the river was attended by all, to varying degrees of wetness, depending on the time of day and location of the sun vs trees. This was generally preceeded or appended by the skipping of stones and other childish activities …. But they are fun!!.

A tree nearby camp was enlisted to provide SRT, changeover and belay practise as well as a swing for the kids.

Talking about kids, they were all out in the paddock throwing the Vortex around when one of the bigger kids miss caught the speeding projectile. Luckily Doctor Kim (MBBS –Provider No 1234567, sign this credit card slip please ) was on site and was able to pop the offending digit back in place. The amusing part was that all the blokes turned grey in the face and shambled off  holding their respective stomachs and had a quick lie down.

We wandered over the hill and searched out our old survey marks and did a run up the flank of the hill to fill in some missing contour detail, and plotted the H and H track with continuous GPS logging.

Punchbowl was rigged SRT for some practice (much to the amazement of the group who was coming out) and we spent a few hours aquainting the newer members to the delight of this cave.

We took some of the kids through Signature and had a nice time trying to loose them in the maze … unfortunately it didn’t work … will have to take some rope next time.

Took all the kids into Dogleg  ….   well it is a walk-in for them …  with the intent of having the Mums take them out while we located and measured up a possible gate location or two.   HOWEVER  the sand trap was unexpectedly full of sand and it was decided that digging out would require too many hours with the available manpower.

Must return again soon with more bobcats.

An enjoyable, fun weekend
