2007-01-13 | Easy Canyon (Du Faur Creek) at Mt Wilson |
Trip report: | |
We left the Bushfire Brigade car park at around 9:00am. We followed the fire trail S then SW till we reached the small track heading west down a ridge to a saddle. From the saddle we branched left and joined an upper tributary of Du Faurs Creek and the canyon began within 300m. The canyon itself although not technically difficult was a decent length (approximately 5.2 km to the Wollangambe). We were prepared to be wet and enjoyed the many numerous swims required in the canyon. There were a few climb over and jump in sections. The most enjoyable jump in section involved two logs and a 3 or 4 metre jump depending on your chose of log. The canyon included some darker sections, areas of mossy walls and some good rock skimming pools. Further down the canyon we past the Joes Canyon entering in on the right (3.5km mark) and then Bells Canyon on the left (4.4 km mark). The water coming out of Bells was significantly colder. We decided to take a small side trip up Bells for a few hundred metres hoping to reach the really tight, tall section often talked about in Bells Canyon. We turned back before that point but did discovered on our return to Du Faurs Creek that the water seemed like bath temperature compared to Bells! Bells Canyon would be a nice canyon to do some time but having a full length wetsuit would be a must. The Canyon ended shortly after that, joining up with the Wollamgambe River. Our exit track was a further 200 m past this point and took us back to the Fire Brigade car park by 5:30 pm Report by: Mark |
