Trip report

2006-09-16 Caving - Survey trip 4 with NHVSS at Timor at Timor Caves
Trip report:
Shane and Jane, Rick and Murray arrived on Friday nite after a clean run from home. Even the normally active wildlife did not bother us !  On arrival at the Shearers quarters there is a smattering of tents.  We drive past and set up on tussocky grass.

On Saturday morning we drive out to the Vaughans property, Caves Ridge, and after a chat,… after all he is a life member…., we headed off into the back blocks in search of missing caves. We spent the day drilling tag holes and photo tagging with Geoff McDonnel, Ian Wilde and ..?.. of SSS , finding new caves and some mapping. Late in the day Gary Smith (NHVSS) is pulling some rocks out of a known feature. We can hear that a small rock drops a nice way.

After pulling out the offensive boulders the shaft turns out to be a clean 12,5m deep with a circular room at the bottom. A small squeeze leads to another room and from then …….?

Meanwhile Shane is walking around the back of Sid`s property looking for a few of the “lost” caves on Jodies list…. To no avail.

There is a major collection of tents around the hut with Hills, SSS, NHVSS and the Birding Group who turned up through the day.

Gary showed some slides of his Indonesian Caving Trip in the hut that nite.

Sunday morning saw us move out before the others and head to Hill Cave to cut a few sections. The kids led Shane in circles while I drew up some sections.

We came out to see SSS tagging the little holes in front of the normal campsite. We left them to do more tagging up the ridge.

I dropped Shane of before the hut so he could walk back across the limestone to see if he recognised anything, again to no avail.

Finished packing, lunch and gone by 2:00pm.

Now to finish the map.
