Trip report

2013-08-17 Caving - Cliefden at Cliefden,  Central West NSW
Trip report:
Mark , Dave T Rick  and Rod
We arrived Friday night about 11pm.
Some rain overnight... windy but quite warm considering its the middle of winter.
Saturday Am we drove up to the farm house and spoke to Anthony got some keys and headed out to Island cave for surveying training.
Rick and Rod went one way while Mark and Dave went the other from survey marker "20". Once we got hungry we went back to the hut for lunch. Mark and Rod walked up the creek ...it took about as long to walk as it took the car to get back.
After lunch we drove back to Island flat and then took about another 4 hours to get nearer to completion.
We came out just after sunset and dusted ourselves off, walked back to the car and headed to the hut.
We sat around the warm glow of the laptop crunching data into "winkarst" and "compass" (and crunching cheese and dip too!!). Doing it straight away enabled us to find any errors and correct them while the memory was fresh.
Dinner then bed about 10 pm once the fire died down.
Sunday we rose to find a cloudless sky with slight winds. Drove to Yarrowigah, the creek crossing has changed as the river has undercut the old path.Drive upstream and cross at the shallow bit. In the cave even Dave managed the vertical squeeze...YAY!.
Yarrowigah is a well decorated cave so... lots of photography ensued.
We were in there for 2 hours and surveying the previous day for about 6 hours.
After a hut clean up we left about 2:30pm.
Thanks OSS for a great venue!
