Trip report

2011-04-30 Caving - Cliefden at Cliefden, Central West NSW
Trip report:
Hills Speleology Club Limited
Cliefden Caves 30/4/11- 1/5/11
Members attending: Dave , Andy , Ros , Jo , Rod , Harry , Andrew , Kate , Mike , Callum.
All arrived in good time on Friday night with a fire going we stayed up and talked for a while.
Sat morning went to Wyreemba CL 9, the cave we located at the end of our last trip. Mike and Andrew waited outside while the rest got in about 9:30 am.  We exited the cave by climbing out without belay through the rockpile by about 1pm.
Following Denis Marsh’s instructions we went to the bluff on the river near Wyreemba to look for Swansong Cave CL 90. No luck locating it but we did find Gable cave CL7 but didn’t enter. After the boys had a play in the river we went back for a late lunch about 3pm.
We headed out to Molongulli CL 69 with Andy, Andrew and Kate keeping the fire warm back at the hut. Paddock was full of thistles ... a prickly walk !!. There was a lot of noise around the entrance because of a polo match and after party just nearby. We got in about 5pm down. We spent about 3 hours in the cave, saw a small puddle we called Harry’s lake and then after passing through a squeeze saw the real lake 2m deep and covered in calcite rafts with that characteristic blue tinge... Ros and Callum got as far as the Crazy Klown room. We Got out about 8 pm and packed up the equipment and headed back to the cars to find Mike waiting patiently for us lights ablaze to mark the way in the dark.
Andrew made a great chicken curry that most people sampled followed by a chocolate pudding (“He can come again!!”).
Sunday morning after a late start we headed for Murder CL 2. In about 10 am all the way to the Blue stal chamber. Each time we go it looks smaller. Maybe we should blame zoom photography!
We got out by about 1 pm with Andrew and Mike waiting for us at the entrance. On the way back I directed Harry to see the entrance of Boonderoo Cave but he ended up finding a 2m brown snake instead.
After a clean up we got out by 3pm to head home. Great company, great venue and  a great weekend!
